High School Quarterback Takes His Friend With Down Syndrome To The Prom

When they were in the fourth grade, Ben Moser promised his friend Mary Lapkowicz that he would take her to the prom. Now that they're old enough, Ben decided to fulfill that promise.

Mary Lapkowicz and Ben Moser have been friends since the fourth grade. Even their fourth grade teacher, Tracey Spogli noticed how hard Ben worked to include Mary, who has Down Syndrome, in games and activities. Ms. Spogli told Penn Live:

"He watched over her constantly. If she was looking like she wasn't having fun, he would go over and talk to her. He would pull her into what ever activity they were doing."

At the end of the school year, Ben told his mom that when they were old enough, he would ask Mary to go to prom with him.

And sure enough,  seven years later, Ben asked Mary to the dance by writing "Prom?" on a set of balloons.

"He just always watched out for her."
