Popular Family retreat Wedge Island in Western Australia were closed this weekend after a surfer was bitten by a great white shark. The 24-year-old victim was Benjamin Charles Linden who was surfing with his friend when he was attacked and killed.
According to a witness Matt Holmes who was also jet skiing nearby at that time said: "There was blood everywhere and a massive, massive white shark circling the body," he said that he tried to grab the body but the shark came at him and tried to throw him off from the Jet Ski. Holmes said that Linden’s body was cut in half.
The Western Australia Department of Fisheries set up baited traps near the attack site to catch the shark. In addition to this a helicopter and boat was also launched to find the body, but it has not been found as yet. Although the horrifying incident was the fifth deadly shark attack reported off the coast of Western Australia in over less than a year, surfers aren’t likely to be deterred.
Peter Dunn, a surfing competition organizer while talking to Fox News said: "Once you are a surfer -- and only a surfer knows the feeling -- we cannot stop surfing. We are addicted."
