A bizarre real estate advert is causing quite a sensation in Indonesia.
Like any other “for sale” ad, it boasts the features of the listed house, which includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a garden, a fish pond, a parking space, and in the most extraordinary fashion: free wife.
Yes, you read that right. This house is on sale and comes with an exclusive offer of the owner’s hand in marriage.
Wina Lia, a resident of Java Island, Sleman, has put her single-story house on market along with herself.
The 40-year-old widow, who also runs a beauty salon, was looking for a house buyer – along with a husband – so she won’t have to move out in the process. She asked her property dealer friend to help, though she claims she had no idea he was going to put up an online ad.
"I told a friend of mine who also works as property agent that if there is a buyer who is a single man or a widower who wants to buy a house, and at the same time look for a wife, he can let me know as I'm also a widow," she said.
The ad has since gone viral in Indonesia. The tag line reads: “When you buy this house, you can ask the owner to marry you” and features a picture of Lia.
"Buy at the asking price and take the owner as your wife (terms and conditions apply),” the ad continues. “The offer is for serious buyers and non-negotiable.”
Apparently, those who argue about the price are not husband material.
The mother of two is overwhelmed with all the attention the ad has received. Living in a conservative, Muslim-majority country, she even had to answer the police, who considered the ad an “improper advertisement.”
The Sleman house is on the market for about $75,000, and surprisingly there has only been one potential buyer so far.
