Two KFC employees were caught on camera using hoses to rinse raw chicken pieces in what appears to be a bin room in Braamfontein, South Africa.
The incident was reportedly filmed by a resident. After the shocking video went viral, the franchise was closed temporarily.
KFC issued an official apology, saying while the management was “really shocked” to see the pictures, it was relieved to find out that the meat was never meant to be cold since it was “discarded chicken.”
“The Braamfontein store had set it aside for disposal. This is a good thing, but the way in which they handled the product to be disposed of definitely did not follow our procedures,” KFC said in a statement posted on Facebook. “The team had some waste that they had discarded with breading on it and they were washing it off to hide it from management.”
