The Heart-Stopping Moment A Logger Almost Gets Crushed By A Tree

First a huge piece of the trunk falls right in front of the lumberjack, causing him to panic. When the other half starts coming down, he runs, leaving the chainsaw still switched on.

A logger had to run for his life when the tree he was cutting started to fall — in a very unusual way.

The heart-stopping moment was captured on camera, showing the man using a chainsaw to fell what looks like a massive pine tree.

As soon as he reaches the middle of the trunk, at around 1:13 in the video, the tree starts falling apart vertically. This prompts the shocked lumberjack to immediately run toward safety.

UPI reports the incident occurred in Georgia and identified the lumberjack as Mark Russell, who stated what happened in the video is an example of a phenomenon known as a "barber chair split."

“A barber chair occurs when a tree being felled delaminates vertically before the hinge is cut thin enough to bend,” explains AborCanada.

“The term refers to the sliding action of the old style barber chair that positioned patrons in a head down, feet up position so the barber could more easily shave with the straight razor.”
