Newly-released CCTV footage from China shows a man successfully catching a one-year-old baby who fell from a second story window. The incident happened in a south Chinese Town Xiaolan, in Guangdong Province.
The bystanders gasped in horror in the rain as they saw the baby fall from the window.
According to a Reuters report, the baby had climbed onto the window while looking for his mother during a heavy thunderstorm.
Witnessing the horrific sight, a local resident identified as Mr. Li, hurried across the road and held out his arms in the hope of catching the falling baby.
Another resident Mr. Hu also rushed to the site to join in the rescue while nearby residents put pieces of cardboard and a sofa on the ground under the window.
Speaking to Reuters, Mr. Li said, “I didn’t think too much at the time. I was just afraid of failing to catch him. Some people put down cardboard to avoid serious injuries to the baby if I fail to catch him.”
“It was nothing but human instinct to do so,” said Mr. Hu.
