A man about to go to prison took one final precaution that he hopes will protect him from some of the most unpleasant experiences while locked up. He got a tattoo of two words displayed prominently across his back:

Yes, that says “HIV Positive.” In case you don’t get why someone would brand himself with this extremely personal bit of medical information, prisons have a reputation for sexual assault, and by claiming that he is HIV positive, this guy is hoping to avoid getting violated. Seems like there is equal opportunity for this to backfire, but we try to keep things PG to PG-13 on this website, and all of the backfire situations I can imagine for the HIV positive tattoo guy are at least R-rated and might be banned by the motion picture association entirely.
While we don’t know how long this man’s prison sentence is, one has to wonder what life will be like for the HIV positive tattoo guy once he gets out of prison. Presumably he’ll get that tattoo removed, but if he can’t afford to right away, he could have some really awkward encounters.
“No no, see, I’m not really HIV positive, I just got that permanently drawn onto my back so that I wouldn’t get violated in prison.”
This is not the only person with an HIV positive tattoo, but the others out there convey a sad but beautiful acceptance, not so much a billboard to ward off intruders. This man has made some mistakes in his life, but the one on his back might be the biggest.
One final note: the HIV positive tattoo guy first appeared on the internet nine months ago, but he seems to have escaped the notice of many until now.
