A new line of wedge sneakers has been introduced by Skechers .Its commercial with the tagline “Get spoiled with Daddy's money, ultra cool shoes that will put you in the spotlight” has caused a stir in the media.
But Julianna W. Miner, a mom of three is not really happy with what she has understood from the commercial. She wrote, "It's so bad that if it were a Saturday Night Live sketch -- it would be hilarious. But it's not. It's real. And I had to watch it all the way through twice before it started to sink in that people were seriously trying to sell this garbage to my daughter.”
Moms think that the ad is kind of sexist and gives an underlying message to the viewers that females don’t work to get what they want instead ask their daddies for their money to buy stuff.
Another mom, Joslyn Gray pointed out that the ‘Daddy’ in the commercial doesn’t even refer to the girls’ fathers; it is short for ‘Sugar Daddy’ instead and the daughters in the ad ‘sway’ their daddies with (inappropriate) clothes in the spot.
Skechers has replied that it was certainly not their intention to offend anyone. And the commercial was meant to be light-hearted.
