The International Space Station happened to be passing over the Sarychev Volcano in Russia’s Kuril Islands, and the pictures they took are otherworldly. The Kuril Islands form a volcanic archipelago from northern Japan to northeastern Russia (Hokkaido to Kamchatka). On June 12th, 2009, the Sarychev Volcano in the northern part of the Kuril Islands was erupting. These photos were taken from the Space Station, offering a rare view of an erupting volcano (hit full screen, you won't be disappointed).
