Everything wrong with religion, Trump, and the GOP in America inside of a 90 second video. Jesus. https://t.co/9lFN262jOd— Keith Weaver (@keithweaver) October 12, 2016
A conservative Ohio pastor named Dave Daubenmire doesn’t think a woman president is “biblical.”
The former high school football coach posted a video on Tuesday telling fellow Christians that even though Donald Trump is a “sinful man,” voters should not support Hillary Clinton because she is a woman — and women in positions of authority are, apparently, against God’s will.
“Women and men may be equal, but I think it’s pretty clear that the Bible teaches us that women should not be in authority over a man,” said Daubenmire, who lost his coaching job after requiring players to pray with him and expressing offensive views about LGBT people and others, according to Raw Story.
Daubenmire’s comments suggest that despite all of Trump’s indiscretions, his mistreatment of women, the recently leaked vile audio recordings, his xenophobic rhetoric, etc. that he is worthy of leading this country simply because he is a man.
“With all that’s going on with Trump and everybody screaming and hollering about that, when is the last time your pastor stood up in the pulpit and said, ‘Hey, listen, we cannot vote for Hillary Clinton because women are not to have authority over men’?” he continued.
Daubenmire’s incredibly sexist and tone-deaf rant went on for nearly two minutes as he continued to use the Bible as an excuse to support Trump.
“Rather than worrying so much about the immorality of a sinful man, what about the biblical principle that when a woman rules over a man … it’s a sign of judgment of the Lord?”
One very important factor that Daubenmire’s rant ignores is the fact that our government is secular.
Laws and legislation are not founded upon an individual’s religious principles.
A politician's religious beliefs may influence their inherent biases surrounding what legislation they choose to support, but ultimately, the country is not ruled by the Bible.
Furthermore, that outdated, patriarchal interpretation of the Bible is totally passé.
There are women in positions of authority all over America as CEOs, senators, congresswomen, mayors, governors, law enforcement officials, etc. so, why would the presidency be out of the question?
Daubenmire needs a serious reality check. In the video he claims to agree with the notion that women and men are equal, yet he carries on with remarks that suggest a president who says he grabs women’s vaginas is more “biblical” than a president who has a vagina.
His logic is completely absurd and it’s truly disturbing that in 2016 there are Americans who still think this way, using religion as a crutch to defend their discriminatory views.
