The Rosenberg Police Department, which maintains a very active presence on Facebook, recently posted the video called “Hip Hop Cops.” The video featured Aerial Ronell and Ranell Roy, two officers from the RPD, lip-synching to Katy Perry's hit from last year, "Dark Horse," featuring rapper Juicy J.

The male voice was lip-synced by Ronell while Roy played the part of Perry. The video instantly went viral on YouTube garnering hundreds of thousands of views in a single day.

The video is an attempt by the Department to humanize the officers. In an interview with KPRC, officer Ronell said, "We actually want to be able to show people that we're just people, just like everybody else." Roy added, "The message is that we're not the enemy, we're the friends of the community."

Explaining the reasons for sharing the video, Sgt. Ariel Soltura, co-creator of the department's Facebook page said, "If we can get people to laugh then we can gain cooperation from the public. They view us just like they would view anybody else."
