Unaware of the looming attack, the president was reading Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are to an assortment of children attending the annual event. Things were going quite smoothly until some kids noticed the buzzing and suddenly, screams of terror filled the area.
The video posted above captures the exact moment the entire ordeal went down, along with Obama’s futile attempts to calm down the terrified kids.
“That’s OK, guys. Bees are good, they won’t land on you,” said the president, chuckling, while unintentionally scaring the audience even more. “They won’t sting you, they’ll be OK.”
However, before the situation could spiral completely out of control, he raised his voice and advised the youngsters to not be afraid of the bees.
“Hold on! Hold on! You guys are wild things! You’re not supposed to be scared of bees when you’re a wild thing!” he exclaimed.
Luckily, things immediately went back to being quiet and Obama picked off the story where he had left off.
