A protester in Iowa is being praised for his brilliance after trolling GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz with a sign that declares, “Ted Cruz Likes Nickelback.”
The troll has shown up to several Cruz campaign events with his famous sign in tow. Most recently, he made an appearance dressed as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The protester’s negative feelings toward Cruz are related to the heavily debated “birther issue.”
"I just don't want, really, a Canadian in office. It seems like he's got a lot of controversy behind him whether he's a U.S.-born citizen or not and I'm just out here making a statement," he admitted to The Washington Post.

Nickelback is a Canadian rock band that rose to fame in the 90’s, but has become somewhat of a joke in the music world over the years as they’ve fallen from grace.
According to Music Times, the band is so disliked that its members were once wanted by Australian police for “crimes against music” and were almost banned from performing in London thanks to a crowdfunded campaign.
Although the protester has remained anonymous and hasn’t expressed allegiance to a particular candidate, his concerns regarding Cruz’s Canadian roots are aligned with claims made by Donald Trump’s campaign to discredit Cruz’s status as a "true" American.
It’s clear that the protester is expressing negative views against Cruz and Nickelback, however, the band has actually embraced the humor in it all by posting a photo of him on their Facebook captioned, “NICKELBACK Employee of the Month. January 2016.”
It’s a pretty hilarious connection: No one likes Nickelback and no one likes Cruz. By linking Cruz to the band, the few people who could possibly like him would be so turned off by his poor taste in music that they would instantly reconsider. Pure genius!
