Reagan's Daughter Says Her Father Would Be 'Appalled' By Modern GOP

There is no higher luminary for modern day Republicans than former president Ronald Reagan. However, his own daughter thinks that feeling is less than mutual.

Reagening In The New Year

Ronald Reagan

If there were a drink called “Ronald Reagan” and all it was Vinegar and lemon juice, Republicans would drink it. If there were a shirt called “The Ronald Reagan” that was made entirely out of hair and itching powder Republicans would wear it. And if “Ronald Reagan” medicine existed Republicans would take it for their every malady, even if it was nothing more than a jar of jellybeans with a Red Cross sticker on it.

There is no higher luminary in for GOP politicians than Ronald Reagan. The man has been elevated to near-deity status. Presidential hopefuls, such as Ted Cruz, chant his name as if it were some sort of magic word with the power to instantly boost poll numbers (which, sometimes, it is).

Despite modern day Republicans fascination with the former President his own daughter believes that, were her father alive today, he would be disgusted with the party he has become the mascot for.

“He Would Be So Appalled… “

Patti Davis appeared on Sirius XM Progress to discuss her book The World Breaks In Colors, but she also used the opportunity to draw a clear line between her father and the candidates invoking his name for the sake of their own political ambitions.

“But yet, they are so not like him. My father would be so appalled at what’s going on — he would be so appalled at these candidates. I don’t think he would be a Republican. If another Ronald Reagan came along right now, I don’t think the Republican Party would accept him” Davis said.

Davis was specifically adamant that her father would have been in strong support of gun control reform in light of the bevy of mass shootings that have been occurring.

“He came out for the Brady bill in, I think, it was 1991,” Davis said. “I don’t think he’d ever be able to conceive what’s going on now — the amount of gun violence or weaponry.”

Davis is making it clear that Reagan’s memory is not as malleable as modern day GOP politicians would like to think. He stood for specific things in a specific time and it is good to remember the facts amidst all of the hero-worship and hype coming from the right side of the aisle.
