Gay and transgender people in Russia are increasingly being targeted. The violence has now unfortunately extended to the entrapment, kidnapping and torture.
Anti-gay vigilantes have started entrapping gay men and boys via social media. They lure them into a meeting and then film "interrogating" and beating of them up and posting the video on Russian social media.
The horrific videos shows what has become very prevalent in Russia now days
These two videos are only one part of a series of videos being circulated by these vigilantes- bragging that they've set up a network to kidnap and punish gay men, who they consider all to be pedophiles.
The scariest part is that the self-righteous perpetrators freely show their faces in videos and have nothing to fear from authorities.
Russia is facing a lot of international criticism and is talk of economic boycotts too, like that of Russian-made vodka.
Another major concern are the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia in 2014. The IOC said it sought and got assurances from the Russian government about the safety of visitors to the Games, regardless of their stance on LGBT rights.
But what is the guarantee in a country where the government has passed an anti-gay law and maintains the laws will be enforced during next year's Winter Olympics in Sochi as well!
But if even the Russian government gives a100 percent guarantee of safety to gays and transgenders visiting Russia for the winter Olympics or even participating in the games, who will vouch for the vigilantes of the country?
