We’ve seen a lot of people use their Facebook friends to keep them motivated, but this guy took the concept to a whole new level.
Lucas Irwin surprised his family when he returned home for his holiday break. Having managed to keep away from home for an entire year, his parents were shocked to see that he had lost 130 pounds!
How did he do it?
In addition to drastically altering his diet and lifestyle, Lucas enlisted the support of social media. With the guidance and support of users on Reddit, Irwin managed to keep motivated, slowly progressing his way to his healthy 170 pounds that he is now at.
As mentioned, looking to your social media friends for support is nothing new. But utilizing Reddit, a site that focuses more on communal interaction and sharing than it does individual, is intriguing. It demonstrates the inherent potential that social networking has to help others attain their goals.
“Social media was amazing for my weight loss journey,” Irwin said to today.com. “Especially the Reddit 'LoseIt' community. You can post your progress and they would help with diet tips and that sort of thing.”
