Vladimir Putin, President of Russia and Angela Merkel, Prime Minister of Germany, were accosted by a topless protestor. Angela Merkel was scared and disturbed. Vladimir Putin was not. He was pleased. He didn't flinch or run. He stood his ground, and raised two thumbs up, while making a weird combo of a smile and kissy face. Gawker was kind enough to make an animated gif of the event.

In case there was any ambiguity in Putin's reaction, he spelled it out for us in a press conference with Merkel:

"Regarding this performance, I liked it," said the Russian President, wearing a similar expression. "I didn’t really hear what they were shouting because the security [guards] were very tough. These huge guys fell on the lasses. That seemed not right to me, they could have been handled more gently.

"I did not catch what they were shouting, I did not even see if they were blondes, brunettes or chestnut-haired ... I don't see anything terrible in (the protest), though I think ... it is better to be dressed if one wants to discuss political matters."

The protestors (there were three), were from the group Femen, and they were less happy with Putin. They shouted "dictator" at him. Femen stated that they were protesting Putin because they are against “dictatorship, homophobia and theocracy.”

If all publicity is good publicity, this was a win-win for Femen and Putin.
