A man survived a hair-raising car accident that made his vehicle leap off a cliff near Angeles Crest Highway, California.
James Shaw finally revealed a dashcam video recording of the horrific incident that almost took his life in 2015.
The 24-year-old Los Angeles man was driving at high speed through a long, dark tunnel when he saw someone at the end, signaling him to slow down. Realizing he was going too fast, he pressed down onto the brake, but it was already too late. As his car, a 2004 Subaru Forester XT, turned the perilous curve, Shaw lost control of the wheel and plunged down the cliff’s edge.
Fortunately for him, the car landed on a ledge, the only horizontal piece of rock on a very steep slope. It was a miracle in itself that the car didn’t spin a couple of feet off or didn’t explode as it hit the rock.
Shaw survived the accident with minimal injuries although his car was wrecked. The terrible event served to teach him a lesson about responsible driving.
“I’m disappointed in myself, and I know some others may be disappointed in me as well,” he says on his post. “And I know it could have been worse in so many ways, and I’m kicking myself for that. But ultimately I’m glad to be alive and well."
The scenic road is popular with motorcyclists and sports car drivers and notorious for freak accidents.
