This Is What It’s Like To Be A Woman Walking Through The Streets of NYC

There is such a thing as a bad compliment – which is evident after watching one woman’s walk through Manhattan.

If you thought that receiving compliments by strangers was a good thing – think again!

Watch what happened when Shoshana B. Roberts, dressed in jeans and a crewneck t-shirt walked through the streets of Manhattan.

Creative director Rob Bliss put together this public service announcement, which highlights the extent of street harassment women are exposed to today. This was done in collaboration with Hollaback, a non-profit dedicated to ending street harassment, which takes donations for its cause.

Roberts walked for 10 hours, holding two microphones in her hand behind Bliss, who was wearing a backpack installed with a camera.

Multiple instances of cat calls are heard, including variations of the famous “how you doing?” line. The line that takes the cake though, is when one stranger has the audacity to say, “somebody's acknowledging you for being beautiful—you should say thank you!"
