In 2016, Donald Trump and his campaign crew were facing the prospect of an inevitable, humiliating defeat against his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Scrambling stem the tide of the Clinton campaign, Trump’s team chanced upon an unlikely ally: Julian Assange.
A cold open sketch from "Saturday Night Live" explores the rather shady camaraderie that is said to have developed between Trump’s team and Assange. “The Mueller Files” is focused on the investigation undertaken by Robert Mueller to find the linkages between Assange’s Wikileaks and the U.S. elections.
The sketch opens with Kate McKinnon’s Assange meeting Donald Trump Jr., played by Mikey Day, in a parking garage.
“As secure as sliding into my DMs is, I thought this would be safer,” Day’s Trump Jr. said.
They are quite unexpectedly joined by Eric Trump (Alex Moffat), who thinks Assange looks like Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series. Promptly, his brother reminds him that they have better etiquette than their father. The deal continues, and Assange asks for a removal of espionage charges against him in return for Hillary’s email. Assange has nothing to fear, Trump Jr. assures him, since his father is loyal to his friends.
