Not many comedians had the grit to roast the president in at the White House Correspondents' dinner this time, which is why the job fell in the hands of a brown immigrant, Hasan Minhaj, who definitely had a ball of a time doing it.
Minhaj gleefully mocked the president in absentia.
"We have to address the elephant that's not in the room.” Minhaj quipped. “The leader of our country is not here. And that’s because he lives in Moscow, it’s a very long flight. It would be very hard for Vlad to make it. Vlad can’t just make it on a Saturday, it’s a Saturday! As for the other guy I think he’s in Pennsylvania because he can't take a joke."
Minhaj was incredulous that for the ninth year in a row, a Muslim would be standing on the stage of the correspondents’ dinner, for Barack Obama had been roasting all and sundry for the past eight years. Cue some strangled laughter from the predominantly white audience.
Hasan Minhaj was in top form, and his humor was subtle and outrageous. Trying to spot Steve Bannon in the audience, Hasan went on, "Is Steve Bannon here? I do not see Steve Bannon. Not see Steve Bannon. Not see Steve Bannon. Nazi Steve Bannon. Nazi Steve Bannon."
Many members of the audience looked pained and only groaned at some of Minhaj’s more cunning jokes. But the comedian was unfazed, saying that he has already hired Kellyanne Conway to say that he killed it at the WHCD.
Minhaj truly killed it, and the man doesn’t need Kellyanne Conway’s validation for that. Watch him bring his A game in the video above.
