Moments after Alec Baldwin exited after his devastating portrayal of Trump on "Saturday Night Live," actress Melissa McCarthy caught White House press secretary Sean Spicer in the midst of a tantrum. Spicer stomped up onto the stage and spat out each word at the reporters waiting for him.
“I’d like to begin apologizing on behalf of you to me. The apology is not accepted.”
Viewers could be forgiven if they thought this was a real White House daily press briefing. McCarthy nailed the contempt with which Spicer treats the press and the spittle-inflected rage he directs at them.
McCarthy-as-Spicer recounted the moment President Trump made his appearance this week to announce his pick for the Supreme Court. At the sight of our president, the crowd was naturally whipped into a state of sexual ecstasy.
"The men all had erections, and every single one of the women was ovulating left and right."
Um, all right then. After accidentally revealing his password, it was time for questions.
When quizzed about Trump's draconian ban on Muslims, the SNL Spicer responded with the gaslighting typical of the new administration.
"The travel ban is not a ban which makes it, not a ban...I am using your words when I say ban."
Having insulted and shut down reporters who inquired about the anti-semitic Bannon being the actual president, Spicer lost his cool. Picking up the dais, he tried to pummel a reporter.
In the end, he was asked about the White House's statement on Holocaust Day, which had no mention of Jews. To counter the accusation, Spicer clarified that the guy who wrote the statement was like, "super Jewy."
As the nation awaits another whine fest from Trump camp regarding SNL, it is obvious that SNL managed a casting coup with McCarthy as Spicer. As this country crashes and burns in the next four years, we will have her impersonation to keep ourselves entertained.
Watch the full skit above and don't miss what happens to the poor "fake news" CNN reporter.
