Like many in the United States, “Saturday Night Live” is also waiting for someone in the Republican Party to stand up to President Donald Trump and his divisive policies.
However, since nobody within the party has yet taken on that role, SNL went ahead and created a fake movie preview, which aired during the latest episode as the story about the to-be-determined Republican who takes a stand against the “president with unchecked power” to fix a “country in chaos.”
“A country in chaos, a nation divided, led by a president with unchecked power,” an ominous voiceover said. “Until one Republican decided enough was enough. A patriot who put country over party, who finally stood up for his nation’s founding values. A man by the name of… TBD.”
In the trailer, a faceless man is praised for going against the president and for prioritizing the security of American democracy instead of the supremacy of the Republican party.
Like his name, his heroic actions and rallying cry are both “TBD.”
“You want to stand up to the president?” the brave Republican was asked during the trailer. “Aren’t you scared?”
That person is, of course, still to-be-determined, much like in real life.
And a lot of people are anxious for “The TBD Story’s” real-life debut — though as the trailer itself clarified, it's definitely not Paul Ryan.
