Server Receives $500 Tip After A Simple Act Of Kindness

Sometimes a random act of compassion can go a long way — at least that's what happened with this Texas waiter who paid an elderly woman's grocery bill.

Kasey Simmons, a server at Dallas-area Applebee's restaurant, one day noticed an elderly woman in the grocery store looking tearful and dejected.

The 32-year-old decided to approach her and sparked up a conversation. When the two reached the check-out counter, Simmons didn't think twice about offering to pay her $17 bill.

“It was only $17, but it’s not about the money," he explained later. "It’s about showing someone you care.”

The woman thanked him for his kind gesture and they went their separate ways.

The next night, Simmons was working his shift at the restaurant when a family walked in and ordered flavored water – the cheapest item on the menu, costing just 37 cents. Then they made a quick exit.

However, Simmons was stunned to find a $500 tip on the receipt.

The customer who left the tip turned out to be the daughter of a woman whom kind-hearted Simmons had stopped to help in a grocery store the day before.

The customer also left a napkin with a note explaining why she decided to give the waiter such a big tip.

"On behalf of the Sullivan family, I want to thank you for being the person you are. On one of the most depressing days of the year ... you made my mother's day wonderful... You insisted on paying and told her she is a very beautiful woman,” it said.

“I have not seen this woman smile this much since dad died... My mother did not need you to help her, but you made her year!”

Although she did not let him know the woman's name, the daughter wanted Simmons to know that he had made a difference.

It was a beautiful gesture that goes to show that sometimes, random acts of compassion go a very long way.
