An elderly couple who had been together since their teenage years passed away within hours of each other, The Huffington Post reports.
After almost 75 years of marriage, Leonard and Hazel Cherry of Woodway, Texas took their last breaths on the very same day, giving a literal meaning to the wedding vow, “Till death do us part.”
The couple had one son named David who is grief-stricken, but finds comfort in knowing his parents are still “together,” so to speak.
“I feel blessed that Daddy’s suffering is over and I feel blessed that Mom is with him and that she didn’t have to live alone,” David told local reporters.
The pair died on Oct. 27, with Leonard, 95, passing at approximately 1 p.m. followed by Hazel, 93, around 10 p.m.
While death usually invokes sadness, there is beauty in the thought that this couple’s eternal bond was so strong that even death couldn’t break it.
