This Rescued Pit Bull Can’t Stop Smiling After Finding New Family

Lisa Reilly first saw Meatball on the Fresno Bully Rescue Facebook page and instantly fell in love with his adorable grinning face.

Meatball, or as he is affectionately known as Meaty, was living in a no-kill shelter when Lisa Reilly from Fresno, California, spotted him on Facebook – and immediately fell in love.

In a story submitted to the animal welfare group PetCo Foundation earlier this year, the happy owner recounted how Meaty’s face reminded her of Kitty, her pit bull who had died three months earlier.

“I saw Meaty's photo on the Fresno Bully Rescue Facebook page and just got this feeling that he was ‘the one,’” she wrote.

The pit bull mix took a few days to adjust in his new home, Reilly added. However, with the help of her then-date, now husband, Joe, things turned out well.

And Meaty even played an important role in the couple’s engagement.

As well as their wedding:

Reilly explained The Dodo why she named her new pet “Meatball.”

"Well, he looks like a bowling ball," she said. "It's hard to really tell just how short he is in person, but he's so low to the ground and wide like a Mack Truck. And he would just barrel into you like a bowling ball of dog fat when we first got him. Thus, he became known as 'The Meatball,' Meaty for short."

Meaty features in a joint Instagram dedicated to the family’s dogs. The account has over 48,000 followers:
