Why Is Balenciaga Selling Two Shirts Stitched Together For $1,290?

On its website, the fashion label introduced the “T-shirt shirt,” which is a long-sleeve button-down shirt simply hanging from a regular T-shirt.

The high-fashion brand Balenciaga is known for its unique designs, however, its latest garment has led to mass confusion.

On its website, the fashion label introduced the “T-shirt shirt,” which is a long-sleeve button-down shirt simply hanging from a regular T-shirt. In fact, it’s so poorly put together that it looks like the two shirts are stapled together.

The item is part of the label’s autumn 2018 collection. Apparently, the shirt can be worn with either the button-down or the T-shirt side hanging loosely, depending on whether the wearer is going for a casual or dressy look.

As HuffPost notes, the shirt is strongly reminiscent of the mullet haircut, which combines a shorter, more tamed look in the front with a longer section of hair dangling freely in the back.

Making things even more bizarre, Balenciaga is selling this garment for $1,290. Why Balenciaga would give such a strange garment this hefty price tag is still a mystery. However, Twitter wasted no time questioning the company’s seemingly absurd decision to not only make the item but sell it at this outrageous price.

Things got even weirder when people started pointing out all of the other odd designs the label was selling on its website for equally shocking amounts.

Just as one must have an acquired taste for certain foods, one must develop an acquired style to appreciate Balenciaga’s vision. With that in mind, let's just consider these garments the caviar of fashion.

It’s no secret that the fashion industry plays by its own rules, and designers frequently go against the grain with their ideas, but something labeled high-fashion does not automatically equate to being stylish, and the “T-shirt shirt” is a perfect reminder of that.
