A Cleveland man, who goes by the username Branik12 on Imgur, recently shared a series of images documenting the renovation of his home.
The 35-year-old, who relies on doing things himself, claimed he and his wife were renovating their 1940’s home when they came across something pretty unusual in the basement. Apparently, there was some wall art that looked like symbols.
They continued the cleaning and while taking out parts of the basement’s dusty ceiling, the two came across a green suitcase.
He then began taking pictures at every step to document the incident for the internet.
“I took the box outside and gathered the wife. It has something inside, but not heavy like coins or gold bars. Might get lucky though. Could be old sports cards?” he wrote.
Curiosity got the best of them, as the couple continued posting pictures online while opening the briefcase.
“Removing the string. The anticipation is growing. What could it be? About tree fiddy?”
The package was wrapped in a newspaper dated March 25, 1951.
This is what happened next.
“These are all twenties! There may be a couple thousand here! We are freaking out at this point. This doesn't happen to us! What do we do? Where are the cameras?” Branik12 wrote.
As the husband and wife undid the package, they were stoked to realize that the total amount of money they had landed their hands on was around $23,000.
“This was a wild ride for us and I hope you all enjoyed it too. We are boring people and have been dumping our extra money to pay off our mortgage and that is where this money will go too,” the last post read.
The Imgur users began commenting on the photos instantly.
“Quick! Put it in a coffee can and bury it in your backyard! That'll keep it safe,” one person wrote while two others said “Brb. Tearing out my floors” and “When your house literally pays for itself.”
