Colin Powell Calls Donald Trump A 'National Disgrace'

In a series of hacked private emails, former secretary of state also said Trump “is in the process of destroying himself, no need for Dems to attack him.”

Former secretary of state, Colin Powell bashed Donald Trump via email back in June, and now it has been reported that he is attacking Hillary Clinton for linking him to her private email scandal, according to The Huffington Post

"Sad thing it [sic] that HRC could have killed this two years ago by merely telling everyone honestly what she had done and not tie me into it," Powell said.

Clinton and her campaign previously pointed out Powell's use of a private email server during his time in political office.

Powell wrote in an email to Clinton saying, "What I did do was have a personal computer that was hooked up to a private phone line. So I could communicate with a wide range of friends directly without it going through the State Department on their personal email accounts. I did the same this on the road in hotels."

He added, "Government or not, to do business, it may become an official record and subject to the law. Be very careful. I got around it all by not saying much and not using systems that captured the data."

An explosive set of emails, hacked from Colin Powell’s private account, show the former Republican secretary of state repeatedly slamming Donald Trump while calling him a "national disgrace" who popularized a "racist" movement.

The emails, first obtained by BuzzFeed, have been confirmed as “accurate” by a spokesperson for Powell.

The retired four-star general allegedly made the “national disgrace” remarks in a June 17, 2016, while writing to Emily Miller, a journalist and Powell’s former press aide.

In the same email, Powell stated Trump "is in the process of destroying himself, no need for the Dems to attack him.” He also wrote Paul Ryan was “calibrating his position again.” (The House speaker had only recently decided to endorse the media mogul at the time of the email.)

In another email sent to Miller, dated Aug. 21, Powell said "the whole birther movement was racist," referring to Trump’s 2012 theory that incorrectly suggests Obama was born in a foreign country.

“Yup, the whole birther movement was racist,” Powell wrote, adding Trump wanted to know if Obama was a Muslim. “As I have said before, ‘What if he was?’ Muslims are born as Americans everyday."

Powell’s emails are the latest documents to be publicly revealed after a Romanian hacker, Marcel Lazar, better known as Guccifer, hacked a number of personal accounts owned by high-profile U.S. officials, including former presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.
