The best things to come out of these historically wacky presidential elections are the online memes and conspiracy theories regarding the candidates running for the highest office in the country.
For instance, a large number of social media users seem to believe GOP presidential hopeful Ted Cruz is in fact the Zodiac Killer — a notorious murderer who terrorized the Bay Area during late '60s and early '70s.
Although it is unlikely that the Texas senator is actually the infamous serial killer, considering he was born two years after the first murder took place and was a baby when the rest happened, some people still believe he looks a little too much like the drawing of the famed murderer. Mostly, people are just delighting in the idea that the most hated man in Congress so closely resembles the mass murderer.
Heidi Cruz recently weighed in on whether or not she is married to the Zodiac Killer. Speaking to Yahoo, the wife of the Republican presidential hopeful assured the nation that the senator is not a mass murderer — no matter what the internet says.
“Well, I’ve been married to him for 15 years, and I know pretty well who he is, so it doesn’t bother me at all. There’s a lot of garbage out there,” she said, blaming the popularity of the online meme on the media.

Unluckily for her, the internet is not buying it — after all, would the Zodiac Killer's wife admit that her husband is the Zodiac?
Here’s how Twitterati responded to Heidi Cruz’s clarification.
My husband is also probably not the Zodiac Killer.— emily nussbaum (@emilynussbaum) May 3, 2016
So Heidi Cruz didn't come out and defend her husband about all of his mistresses, but she did defend against him being the Zodiac Killer?— MATTY ICE (@MattyIceAZ) May 2, 2016

The Zodiac Killer joke got more recognition recently, thanks to comedian Larry Wilmore, who made several jokes about the meme during the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday.
“Recently, Ted Cruz got a string of wins and endorsements, then everybody remembered who Ted Cruz is, the Zodiac Killer,” he said.
