Donald Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort recently came under fire for alleged ties with pro-Kremlin allies in Ukraine, further fueling rumors surrounding the media mogul’s relations with Russia.
Trump and Manafort have, of course, denied all allegations against them.
But then, nearly around the same time, the Republican nominee’s daughter, Ivanka, posted an Instagram photo she took during her visit to Dubrovnik, Croatia, that’s probably not going to help her father’s case:
Here’s why: Ivanka’s sightseeing partner in the photo is Wendi Deng Murdoch, the ex-wife of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who is reportedly dating Russian President Vladimir Putin.
While the friendship between the two women might come across as news to many, there’s nothing really shocking about it. Their relations go back years.
In fact, according to People magazine, Wendi Deng Murdoch fixed up Ivanka with her now-husband Jared Kushner.
"There's nothing that doesn't interest her, and she can hit five topics in a 35-second conversation. It's really a whirlwind with Wendi,” Ivanka told Vogue of Deng Murdoch in July. “I can't recall the last time I had a conversation with her that didn't conclude with her connecting me to four people who might become great friends or great business opportunities."
The timing of the public display of this long-time friendship might not prove to be beneficial for Ivanka’s dad though.
Trump has long been suspected of having ties to Russian financial interests. That’s also one of the (many) theories behind his persistent refusal to release his tax returns. Then, just recently, he attracted criticism for publicly asking Russia to hack his presidential rival Hillary Clinton’s account. And just this week, The New York Times reported Putin's biggest Ukrainian ally secretly set aside $12.7 million in cash payments for Manafort.
Trump’s campaign is already falling apart — he hasn’t admitted it, obviously, but it certainly looks like it. And while he is reportedly desperately in need of a reboot, Ivanka’s vacation photos on Instagram with the Russian president’s rumored love interest might not be a very good idea.
