Singer and songwriter Kesha has been involved in a legal battle with her former music producer Dr. Luke, after she claimed he mentally and physically abused her for years and tried to micromanage every aspect of her life.
In 2014, she filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke, alleging he often criticized her weight, leading to her eating disorders.
Supporting her claims, Kesha's lawyer has now provided copies of emails exchanged between Dr. Luke and Kesha's manager, Monica Cornia, to the Supreme Court of the State of New York.
"We were having a discussion on how Kesha can be more disciplined with her diet. There have been many times we have all witnessed her breaking her diet plan. this perticular [sic] time — it happened to be diet coke and turkey while on an all juice fast,” one email from the music producer read.
“We all get concerned when she is breaking her diet plan. We have seen it happen multiple times, almost every day.”
“It is also double concerning when the A list songwriters and producers are reluctant to give Kesha their songs because of her weight,” other emails said.
However, despite the claims, Dr. Luke is denying the implication of the emails. His lawyer Christine Lepera has stated that the emails have been taken “out-of-context” and added that “the tremendous support that Dr. Luke provided Kesha regarding artistic and personal issues, including Kesha’s own concerns over her weight,” is being overlooked.
For now, the truth remains unknown and Kesha and her alleged abuser are set to engage in a phone conference with a judge in the coming week.
