Malia Obama, the eldest first daughter, skipped the Democratic National Convention to enjoy the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago instead — and it seems all hell broke loose.
Here are some of the headlines:
It’s shameful how the media went berserk over the issue.
It was just a day out for a teenager enjoying some music and having the time of her life. Yes, there were Secret Service guys all around and it did make her stand out more than any other kid her age, but there’s nothing wrong in that, is there?
“It looks like Malia was just there to enjoy the music and dancing. And boy, did she ever enjoy the dancing. She was caught on camera twerking and flipping up the shirt she had tied around her waist, revealing her short shorts, while she partied with some of her girlfriends during the Mac Miller concert,” wrote PJMedia.
“Wild child! Malia Obama is spending her last months of White House living doing plenty of partying.
"The 18-year-old was spotted getting her groove on at Lollapalooza for the second time this weekend — and this go-around was much more risqué than the last!
"Malia was spotted through the crowd at the music festival, dancing provocatively with some friends.
"She even lifted up her shorts to reveal her booty in the process!” Radar Online wrote.
Another one exclaimed: “First daughter Malia Obama continues to shame her family’s good name. Last week, she ditched Hillary Clinton’s speech at the Democratic Convention to attend a rock concert. Then over the weekend, the 18-year-old was spotted dropping it low and ‘twerking’ it for the cameras at a backyard BBQ.
"Twerking is a dance trend that incorporates vulgar dance moves popularized by strippers and video vixens.”
Many who didn’t stoop to the low of objectifying the teen still went after her for missing the DNC.
It’s actually atrocious the way media is going after her. Regardless of who she is and who her parents are, no self-respecting organization would stoop this low. But obviously there are several out there that did.
Sadly, sensationalizing facts and provoking controversies seem to have become a norm.
Thankfully, there are some reasonable and sane people out there as well.
whats the papers problem with malia obama just because shes having fun at some festival!? let her live she isnt doing anything wrong!!— Diego Barrueco (@DiegoBarrueco) July 30, 2016
I know she's technically an adult but I don't think it's fair to publish pictures of Malia Obama being a normal person at a music festival.— Olivia Nuzzi (@Olivianuzzi) August 1, 2016
Malia Obama didn't "skip" the DNC. She was never obligated to go in the first place.— reggie (@1942bs) July 30, 2016
Malia Obama skipping the DNC for Lollapalooza proves that her parents see her as a person and not a prop. I approve this message.— Evie Manieri (@EvieManieri) July 29, 2016

“In the video, girls in the crowd are screaming their appreciation as Malia smiles and dances along. They are delighted that she, the president’s daughter, is just like them,” wrote The Independent.
It went on, “Perhaps, if she's going to dance, it should be more of an awkward shuffle? If she's going to dress up, surely it should be a buttoned-up cardigan and jeans, and God forbid she show her midriff.”
The 18-year-old recently graduated from high school and is planning to take a gap year before she begins classes at Harvard in 2017. She is only making the most of her time off just like anyone her age most probably would.
The lower-than-low sensational media ought to know better.
