If someone pleads guilty to raping another person, they should automatically go to jail — no questions asked. But, an Iowa teen got off practically scot-free after admitting he was guilty of molestation.
Tim Caya, leader of the MissingCases.com Facebook group, posted a photo of Grooms to help investigators catch him, and it worked as he was quickly identified, according to the Ottumwa Post.
“It was within an hour that he was identified. I had seen the post on the ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) page, made a flyer, posted it, and all of a sudden thousands of people had shared it. Within the hour, I was getting comments and some of them were from Kraigen Grooms’ friends. They tagged his profile, so I called ICE with the tip. I heard shortly later that they had caught him,” Caya said.
Caya added, “I’m glad I helped catch him, but it makes you wonder about what’s going on these days with kids doing this at such a young age.”
Grooms received a 10-year suspended sentence from Judge Randy Degeest, was released from Wapello County Jail, and will be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
It’s appalling that Grooms got away with raping a young child, and to add to the white privilege aspect to this story, the rapist is Caucasian.
