The spike in hate crimes nationwide is alarming.

The home of New York Giants fullback Nikita Whitlock, 25, was robbed and vandalized on Tuesday night, ESPN reported. His Moonachie apartment that he shares with his wife and two young children in Bergen County, N.J., was vandalized with racial slurs, a swastika, and Donald Trump’s name.

“KKK” was written on the wall in his basement apartment, as were the hateful words, “Go back to Africa” and "F****** N*****." He has had to cover up the obscenities, which were scrawled on his wall, to protect his kids.

This is the second break-in which the family has had to endure, his representative Josina Anderson said. His apartment was also broken into over Thanksgiving weekend. Sadly, they have lived at that particular address for only six months.

In the latest robbery, jewelry and video game consoles were stolen, but other electronics including laptops were left behind, according to New York Daily News. Whitlock claims it happened when his family was out for just a few hours.

“It just re-establishes that no matter where you are, no matter who you are, this can happen to you,” Whitlock said. “It’s about to be 2017. Oppression, violence, racism, hatred… there’s no need for that.”

His wife, Ashley, said, “It’s very disgusting, actually. It’s very disheartening. You hear about things like that that do happen, but you never think, ‘Oh, this is going to happen to me.’”

The Moonachie Police Department is investigating the burglaries. Particularly disturbing is the connection between racist epithets and the name of the president-elect. It is imperative that Donald Trump directly address the criminals who use his name to commit violent and hateful acts such as this.
