Giuliani didn't get the memo to smile. - Senator Al Franken https://t.co/1W9W0B8UXa— Maddow Blog (@MaddowBlog) October 21, 2016
For the first time in many, many months, people got to see the two presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, laughing heartily, as opposed to glaring, while sniping at each other.
However, since it was the traditional, light-hearted roast at the Alfred E. Smith Dinner in New York, technically, everybody was required to laugh — but not everyone did.
No, Rudy Giuliani stole the spotlight from the two White House hopefuls with his outstanding unimpressed face, nearly throughout the event or, at least, during the part where Clinton roasted Trump and some of his campaign associates, including the former New York City mayor.
Giuliani’s scowl attracted most attention when Clinton mentioned “wonderful elected officials” in the room such as Sen. Chuck Schumer, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“And, we have Rudy Giuliani,” she added, eliciting laughs.
“Many don’t know this, but Rudy actually got his start as a prosecutor going after wealthy New Yorkers who avoided paying taxes,” Clinton said. “But as the saying goes, if you can’t beat ‘em, go on Fox News and call ‘em a genius,” she added, referring to Trump’s infamous tax controversy.
As Clinton speaks, you’ll notice that there’s not even a slight hint of a smile on Giuliani’s face.
It’s actually very uncomfortable to watch. See it for yourself in the video above.
