Hundreds of Saudis are commenting on a picture that recently surfaced on the Internet, where a Saudi man is seen eating with his wife at a restaurant.
The man has is being criticized for draping a scarf over his booth at the eatery to protect his wife’s privacy, although she was already wearing a veil and was sitting behind frosted glass.
More than 100,000 people have commented on the picture within a matter of days. While some people called the man “overzealous,” others have supported him by saying he was only “protecting” his wife.

Interestingly, this was not the only debate that sparked as a result of the photo being shared. People even went on to debate whether the picture being posted on social media could be termed as “cybercrime.”
It is important to note that not all women in Saudi Arabia wear a face veil in public anymore, so it's harder to understand why this man was being so overprotective. That’s probably one of the reasons why a lot of Saudis are also criticizing the man in the photo.
The Arab country is known for its strict laws blocking the rights of women, who are required to be fully covered in public. All women are highly dependent on the male members of their family, and are not allowed to drive or work without a man’s permission.
However, the rules are now being loosened up and in December 2015, women in Saudi Arabia were allowed to vote and run in a nationwide election for the first time in history.
