A couple from Wisconsin is facing several charges after forcing their 9-year-old daughter to drive them and their 11-month-old infant home because they were too drunk to drive, according to Polk County Circuit Court records.
After appearing in court on Friday, Jason Roth, 36, and Amanda Eggert, 32, pleaded not guilty to charges of child neglect and recklessly endangering the safety of their two children.
Reuters reports, "On Jan. 31, a sheriff's deputy responded to a call about an erratic driver and found the couple and their children parked at a boat drop in Polk County, about 75 miles northeast of Minneapolis, according to a criminal complaint."
“As the nine-year-old exited the truck, it was still running and in drive when Mr. Roth was sitting in the truck by himself,” Deputy Jeff Hahn testified in court. “He turned the ignition off and the truck began rolling backwards down the hill towards the river. I jumped into the truck to hit the brakes and put the truck in park.”
When the officer realized that the 9-year-old had driven the intoxicated couple and their infant child, he immediately detained Roth and Eggert. Initial reports indicate that Eggert had a blood alcohol content of over 0.25.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Eggert is facing several charges for allegedly attacking paramedics that arrived on the scene to take a look at a cut she had on her hand.
Thankfully, no one was hurt. Fox9 reports that the two children are staying with other family members while Roth and Eggert await trial.
