Sherelle Smith, the sister of a man shot and killed by Milwaukee police, made some controversial comments as she spoke to reporters at a gas station during riots in the wake of her brother’s death.
Sylville Smith was fatally shot in the chest and arm by a police officer on Aug. 13, which was followed by days of violent riots and looting.
“You’re burning down s***, we need in our community,” Sherelle Smith screamed in video that’s now being widely shared on social media. “Take that s*** to the suburbs! Burn that s*** down!”
The story was then picked up by news aggregator website Weasel Zippers.
However, Sylville’s other sister, Kimberly Neal, condemned the hostile response from local residents while speaking to the same crowd at the gas station.
“At the end of the day, acting out ain’t gonna solve it,” she said, according to a local Fox News affiliate. “We tired of it. We tired.”
The video emerges almost a day after Sedan Smith, a man claiming to be the brother of the shooting victim, blamed the unrest on police officers killing people during arrests.
