The blatant call for racial profiling from GOP politicians has reached a terrifying level. Donald Trump is primarily responsible for this, but Sen. Ted Cruz is now following eagerly in his footsteps.
Following the attacks in Brussels on Tuesday, Cruz released a statement:
“For years, the West has tried to deny this enemy exists out of a combination of political correctness and fear. We can no longer afford either. Our European allies are now seeing what comes of a toxic mix of migrants who have been infiltrated by terrorists and isolated, radical Muslim neighborhoods.”
This attempt to characterize Muslim neighborhoods as “radical” and call migrants “a toxic mix” goes against every single tenet the United States was founded on. Cruz is becoming as unpatriotic as it gets.
He continued that, “We need to immediately halt the flow of refugees from countries with a significant al-Qaeda or ISIS presence. We need to empower law enforcement to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized.”
This hateful speech mimics Trump’s earlier push to monitor Muslim mosquesand even register Muslims in a national database.Even more troubling, the rhetoric coming from both Cruz and Trump iseerily reminiscent of the methods Hitler used to isolate and target Jews.
Many claim that Trump would be the most dangerous candidate to run on the Republican side, but with this statement, Cruz just proved he is equally abhorrent and dangerous to the country.
