Trump Loves Immigrants — As Long As They're Working For Him

Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago beach club in Florida employs more foreign workers than Americans which completely goes against his anti-immigrant campaign rhetoric.

Business mogul and Republican presidential front-runner, Donald Trump, has been called out on many things including racism, bigotry, sexism and fabricating stories but he is also a huge hypocrite.

His actions do not reflect the things he says in his speeches on the campaign trail. Proof of his hypocrisy lies in the fact that his elite Florida beach club, Mar-a-Lago employs the very people he is committed to shaming and removing from the United States.

Foreign workers have been the majority of hires for certain posts at the luxurious Palm Beach resort since 2010, The New York Times reports.

Nearly 300 U.S. residents have either been referred or applied for jobs at the club as cooks, housekeepers and waitstaff but federal records show that only 17 have been hired. Meanwhile, the club filled most of those positions with workers from Romania and other foreign countries.

Trump has also reportedly sought more than 500 visas for foreign workers in the last six years, yet he continuously bashes immigrants and migrants for taking jobs away from Americans.

Why aren’t you practicing what you preach, Mr. Trump? If you’re so concerned about Americans being displaced from the workforce, you should probably start hiring some.

While he has always claimed that he supports legal immigration, (as he should, considering his wife is an immigrant) the fact that he has vowed to make the U.S. border “impenetrable” along with building walls and banning Muslims indicates that he wants to limit all immigrants — legal or otherwise.

However, based on how Mar-a-Lago is run, it seems that his own livelihood would be negatively impacted without foreign workers.

Trump has been asked about his hiring of foreign workers instead of Americans and he claimed, “The only reason they wouldn’t get a callback is that they weren’t qualified, for some reason. There are very few qualified people during the high season in the area.”

It doesn’t really sound believable that out of 300 American applicants he couldn’t find enough “qualified” people to fill jobs. Furthermore, implying that so many Americans aren’t suitable for these types of blue-collar jobs is a bit of an insult.

Tom Veenstra, senior director of support services at CareerSource — a job placement service — disagreed with Trump’s argument that he couldn’t staff Mar-a-Lago with local folks. “We have hundreds of qualified applicants for jobs like those,” he said.

In addition to overlooking Americans, Trump’s club also makes jobs slightly less appealing to domestic workers by discouraging tips, not offering any benefits and listing “temporary” positions.

It’s been said that Trump is just blowing steam during his campaign speeches, spewing nonsense that he doesn’t even believe himself. The release of this information about Mar-a-Lago just validates those sentiments — wonder how all of his anti-immigrant, white supremacist supporters feel about this?
