After Friday, it’s probably safe to say Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has crashed and burned.
His hopes of replacing President Barack Obama in the Oval Office must be withering way after salacious recordings surfaced of him making utterly disgusting commentary about women.
Trump can be heard telling the former host of “Access Hollywood,” Billy Bush, about his attempted sexual advances toward a married woman in vulgar detail.
It is assumed that Trump did not know the microphone was on when he carried on this discussion, but now his words have come back to haunt him.
Speaking of the unnamed married woman Trump said, “I did try and f*** her. She was married.”
“I moved on her like a b****, but I couldn’t get there. And she was married,” Trump said. “Then all of a sudden I see her, she’s now got the big phony t**s and everything.”
Keep in mind; this conversation occurred just months after marrying his third and current wife, Melania.
Although it’s unclear when Trump “moved on” the woman he speaks of, there’s an implication of infidelity.
It is no secret that Trump has objectified and insulted women on numerous occasions, this new recording puts the final nail in the coffin.
Trump has consistently brushed off claims that he is sexist and misogynistic by claiming to have great “respect” for women. He even said in an interview this week that many of his comments about women were simply for “entertainment.”
These newly discovered recordings are not so easy to dismiss but, he tried.
“This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago. Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course — not even close,” Trump said in a statement after the recordings went viral. “I apologize if anyone was offended.”
In typical Trump fashion, instead of taking responsibility for his actions he deflected to Bill Clinton and belittled the offensive conversation to nothing more than just guy talk.
Trump also can be heard saying that he, essentially, uses his star power to grope and kiss women at his discretion.
“You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them,” Trump said. “It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait.”
“And when you’re a star they let you do it,” Trump continued. “You can do anything. Grab them by the p***y.”
Wow, so not only does Trump seem to be okay with adultery, he also doesn’t appear to believe in the importance of consent.
In addition to being completely repulsive, those two factors certainly won’t go over well with the conservative Christian voters he’s trying to reach.
"This should have never happened. I wish it had never happened. I think I know that men talk this way sometimes, but it's nothing I would ever want to hear or condone or approve of," a close adviser of Trump’s reportedly said. "My reaction is — it's appalling. It's just flat out appalling."
Hillary Clinton has responded to the controversy by calling the recordings, “horrific” and asserting that, “We cannot allow this man to become president.”
Trump is all out of legs to stand on, and as the second presidential debate approaches, it is certain that these new findings will be mentioned.
It will be interesting to see what defense Trump’s camp comes up with, because dismissing this issue as “locker room banter” is not enough to breathe life back into his campaign.
As the old saying goes, stick a fork in him … he’s done.
