A Virginia man is facing hate crime charges after he reportedly bit another man's face after making racial slurs right outside a busy shopping mall.
The alleged incident took place on Nov. 27 in the parking lot of Tysons Corner Center in McLean, Fairfax County.
Thirty five-year-old Robin McGreer approached a 31-year-old man and struck up a conversation before threatening him with “anti-Muslim” insults, according to reports. As the altercation heated up, McGreer bit the man’s face and fled the scene, according to Fairfax County police.
The victim’s name and religious background have not been revealed, as per the department’s policies. He sustained a “significant facial wound.”
McGreer was arrested just this week and charged with “bias-related malicious bodily injury.”
The delay between the attack and McGreer’s arrest was caused “because of thorough investigation,” police spokeswoman Megan Hawkins told reporters.
The incident one of the almost 700 hate incidents recorded by the Southern Poverty Law Center since the Nov. 8 election.
Just last week, on Feb. 22, 51-year-old Adam Purinton allegedly opened fire at two Indian-Americans, before allegedly yelling, “Get out of my country.”
The shooting claimed the life of 32-year-old Srinivas Kuchibhotla, an aviation engineer at Garmin and left 32-year-old Alok Madasani, another Garmin engineer, injured. Another man, Ian Grillot, 24, was injured in the shooting after he tried to stop Purinton.
