The Atlanta Falcons have signed undrafted free agent Dontez Byrd, former Louisville wide receiver who finished his collegiate career at Tennessee Tech. Congrats @_SpeedyByrd pic.twitter.com/TmWE7Edlwg— 35KY Sports (@35KYsports) April 29, 2018
NFL rookie Dontez Byrd has been shining during the Atlanta Falcons training camp, fulfilling a childhood dream he once wrote about in a note to his mother.
Byrd, who is from Louisville, Kentucky, signed on to the Falcons as an undrafted rookie out of Tennessee Tech University back in April, according to FanBuzz.
With the odds stacked against him as an undrafted player, he went into camp with much to prove.
Just days ahead of his first NFL preseason game against the New York Jets, Byrd tweeted a photo of a letter he wrote to his mom when he was younger.
Wrote this when I was young then went and got it! Spoke it into Existence and worked for this opp pic.twitter.com/rmJprpY2Q3— Dontez Byrd (@_SpeedyByrd) August 6, 2018
The note reads:
Today we had a seminar on Legacy and I want my legacy to be someone who went against all odds and accomplished what he was put on Earth to do. Each day I get closer and closer to my dreams of playing professional football.
The official Atlanta Falcons Twitter account retweeted Byrd's letter, adding a few words of encouragement.
While it is yet to be seen how Byrd will perform on the field once the season begins, he is already an inspiration to American youth by proving that a childhood dream can become a reality with hard work, dedication, and perseverance.
I like how you ended that letter: Love Dontez Byrd. THAT letter should be shared AGAIN at your HOF speech. This Letter is the Legacy to your Legendary FOOTBALL career to come. You do need a nickname soon, I mean Dontez "DIRTY" Byrd sounds pretty cool #DIRTYBYRDS4LIFE— Tornado T-Rex (@Twyztur1978) August 7, 2018
