Woman Is Now A Millionaire After Placing $18 Kentucky Derby Bet

"To bet that little amount of money and win $1.2 million is unheard of. In fact, it's the first time it's happened at Retama," a Retama Park spokeswoman said.

One lucky woman turned $18 into $1.2 million by betting on a series of Kentucky Derby day races over the weekend.

Although the races took place in Louisville, Kentucky, an unnamed woman from Austin, Texas, went to the Retama Park racetrack in Selma, Texas, on Saturday and made a Pick 5 wager, which means she submitted a bet attempting to choose the winner of five consecutive races. Her risky gamble turned out to be a very lucrative decision.

She chose Justify to win the finale, which came true, and she picked the winners of all four races leading up to the main event, according to spokeswoman for Retama Park, Rachel Bagnetto.

"It's extremely rare," Bagnetto said. "To bet that little amount of money and win $1.2 million is unheard of. In fact, it's the first time it's happened at Retama."

Ironically, her winnings were almost equal to the $1.24 million that the horse Justify won in the thoroughbred Run for the Roses.

Although Justify was a fairly easy bet, entering the main event at 3-1 odds, some of her other choices were pretty big long shots, such as Funny Duck at 39-1 for the Pat Day Mile race and Yoshida at 9-1 in the 11th race. She clearly had luck on her side, however, as her bets made her an overnight millionaire.

It's probably safe to say no one had a better day at the racetrack than this woman.
