9-Year-Old Boy Left In Tears After Being Fat-Shamed By Santa

"I felt awful. I went out and started crying, because I just felt so bad," 9-year-old Anthony Mayse said of a Santa who made fun of his weight on Dec. 3.

Santa Claus of Forest City, N.C., is certainly not in keeping with the spirit of Christmas.

Anthony Mayse, 9, said this particular St. Nick made fun of his size, leaving him in tears at the end of his visit.

"When he got done, he said, 'Lay off the hamburgers and French fries,'" Mayse told ABC News 13. "And that really just disrespected me, and I felt awful. I went out and started crying because I just felt so bad."

Mayse's mother said she'd never seen anything like it.

"Very rude. What set me off is when he started crying," she said. "I was just mind-blown. I wished a million times that we never went."

Mayse tore up his photo with Santa and cried until bedtime.

Santa has since said sorry to his supervisor and the Mayse family, but the boy's mom is anticipating termination.

"I'm hoping he's fired because I don't want any kid feeling like he did Saturday," she said. "I mean, it destroyed him."

Although Santa's words were completely appalling, the boy has the right idea about positive body image.

"I want to say to [Santa], 'You don't want to disrespect a 9-year-old. Even though what shape and size you are [sic], it doesn't matter," he said.

This kid is our hero.
