“Hacktivist” organization Anonymous has been in an ongoing battle with the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). They’ve leaked the names and personal information of nearly 400 alleged members and consistently denounced and shamed the notorious hate group.
In their latest attack against the KKK, Anonymous took down their official website and kept it deactivated for the past several days.
The specific group that carried out this hack is called Ghost Squad, which is a smaller branch of the larger movement.
They successfully carried out the stunt using a DDoS attack which is a hack that overloads a website with more traffic than it can handle, according to Mic.
If the KKK ever figures out how to counteract the attack, they’ll be able to display their site unharmed as the hack doesn’t delete the site or its contents.
"We targeted the KKK due to our hackers being up in their face, we believe in free speech but their form of beliefs is monolithic and evil," a Ghost Squad representative reportedly told HackRead.
Well played, Ghost Squad.
