5-Year-Old Texas Church Shooting Survivor Wishes For Christmas Cards

The boy was one of the survivors of the church shooting that killed his mom and sisters. Now, his family is asking everyone to send him some holiday cheer.

Little Ryland Ward experienced the worst trauma of his young life when he lost his two sisters and his mother in the horrific Sutherland Springs shooting. This Christmas, you can help bring him a little holiday cheer by sending him a card.

Ward, 5, is one of the survivors of the massacre that killed 26 people, including his mom, JoAnn, and sisters, Emily and Brooke.

As he remains in the hospital recovering from his injuries, Sandy Ward, his grandmother, is asking everyone to try to cheer him up with the simplest gift of all: Christmas cards.

“You got so many nice people that are sending a card and a dollar to Ryland," she said. "He does really enjoy that a lot."

She said he's saving his money for a Go-Kart, and that if people can send him pictures of other kids and their pets, he will be happy.

At first, Sandy Ward said she thought her grandson was going to be home before Christmas, but due to the severity of his femur and kidney injuries, the boy remains in the hospital where he will stay for six to eight weeks longer.

In order to keep the boy’s hopes up, his family is asking anyone who can spare five minutes to write him a card to do so. The Twitter community has shared the request far and wide.

Some famous users promptly acted, sharing with their followers that they had already sent him a card.

If you want to bring some happiness to Ryland Ward's life as he recovers from his wounds, you may send him a card to the following address:

Ryland Ward
P.O. Box 174
Sutherland Springs, Texas 78161

He deserves to know that people are rooting for him to get well and that there is still joy in this world, despite the tragedy he has faced.
