Celebrities Urge Members Of The Electoral College To Reject Trump

“Trump lacks more than the qualifications to be president, he lacks the necessary stability and clearly the respect of the Constitution of our great nation.”

With just weeks to go before Donald Trump’s inauguration as the President of the United States, a number of celebrities have come together to implore the electors to do the right thing and vote for their conscience AKA reject the bigoted billionaire with no political and military experience from entering the White House.

“You have the position, the authority, and the opportunity to go down in the books as an American hero who changed the course of history,” several celebrities – including Martin Sheen, Richard Schiff, Debra Messing, James Cromwell, BD Wong, Bob Odenkirk, Moby – addressed the members of the Electoral College in a new PSA.

They also clarified that they were not endorsing Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton for the job.

“As you know, our Founding Fathers built the Electoral College to safeguard the American people from the dangers of a demagogue, and to ensure that the presidency only goes to someone who is ‘to an eminent degree, endowed with the requisite qualifications,’” said “The West Wing” actor Martin Sheen.

Trump won 306 electoral votes while Clinton took 232. However, the former secretary of state leads the national popular vote by more than 2.8 million.

“As you know, the Constitution gives the electors the right to vote for any eligible person,” explained “M.A.S.H” star Mike Farrell, as actress Debra Messing added, “But it should certainly be someone you consider especially competent.”

The celebrities reminded the electors they could go in history as heroes.

“You have my respect,” they declared, introducing social media hashtag #SupportTheElectors.

To delay Trump from becoming the next president, 37 Republicans electors would have to switch their votes – which seems a highly unlikely feat, but it is worth an effort.

The video was published by anti-Trump non-profit organization Unite for America.

“We are a multi-partisan movement of concerned citizens and volunteers, united against the unprecedented threat of an unqualified candidate taking our nation's highest office,” the group said on its website. “Our mission is to develop and amplify multi-partisan public initiatives that yield measurable results in safely resolving the 2016 U.S. Presidential Crisis.”

After all, “all it takes is 37 to make History and to make it right.”
