Distracted Woman Falls Through Trapdoor Because She Was Texting

A 67-year-old woman has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after falling six feet through a trapdoor while texting as she walked down a New Jersey street.

A New Jersey woman's unfortunate mishap serves as a reminder that you should pay attention to your surroundings while trying to walk and text.

Footage shows the Plainfield woman walking along the sidewalk, cellphone in hand, and seemingly oblivious to the trapdoor she is headed toward.

Falling six feet down, she sadly sustained critical injuries as a result of the accident, ABC News reports.

Witnesses gathered around following the steep fall, and the fire department arrived on the scene to rescue the woman from the hole and rush her to the hospital for treatment.

The sidewalk access doors were open because workers were tending to gas line repairs in the area.

On the surface, the footage may appear humorous, but the situation is really no laughing matter. People are often hurt and injured in freak accidents just like this because they simply aren't paying attention.

Distracted walking can be just as dangerous as distracted driving. Multitasking is not everyone's strong suit.
